Hello Mermaid Friends—
After a lot of thought, we’ve made the really difficult decision to postpone the 9th Annual Mermaid Capital of Texas Festival that was planned for May 2, 2026.
This was not an easy call. We know how much this festival means to so many of you, and we’re truly sorry for any disappointment or inconvenience. We feel it too—big time.
With so much constantly changing around us, we realized the best thing we can do right now is pause, take a breath, and focus on making the festival even better. As it’s grown, so have the logistics, expenses, and need for support. So postponing this year will allow us to build a strong foundation over the next twelve months.
One thing we’re especially excited about is forming our very first Mermaid Festival Committee. This group will help guide the planning and bring the festival to life moving forward. It’s a big step toward making sure the mermaid magic keeps growing year after year.
In the meantime, we’ll be putting extra love and energy into our youth eco-education and river stewardship programs—the heart and soul of why the Mermaid Society exists in the first place.
Now, the good news… we’re already dreaming up 2027!
The Mermaid Promenade and Aqua Blues Music & Art Fest will return on May 1, 2027, and the Mermaid Festival will be back as a full, citywide celebration—just like the pre-COVID days—with events happening all across town.
Mark your calendars: April 23 – May 2, 2027.
We’re inviting the whole community to take part in celebrating our city's official designation - The Mermaid Capital of Texas—by hosting your own events and activities as part of the official Festival Calendar (sign-ups coming soon!). Our goal is to create a true kickoff to summer in San Marcos—celebrating our river culture, our creativity, and everything in-between that makes our home - Uniquely San Marcos!
A few quick notes:
• Artist vendor applications will remain open until spots are filled
• Parade registration will open mid-summer (once we confirm festival highlights)
